Seems like NPR's Tiny Desk is rapidly becoming a 3rd home (Bob Boilen might have to put a seat in the corner for me). I've seen some of my personal favorites perform there --Anderson .Paak, Tuxedo. We can now add Jidenna to the list as well. Below you'll see a few of the moments that I captured after Jidenna's Tiny Desk performance.
Watch the Tiny Desk performance here!
Looking back on all of the people I've photographed --boy it was a lot--I had so many favorite moments/photos and I couldn't share all of them here (..whispers, there's a totally different set of favorites on my IG page )
So take a look below at some of my favorite moments and photos of 2016! (click the photo to enlarge)
...We're gathered here today to get through this thing called Life...
2016 took our Prince away from us, while we are still grieving (and possibly always will), I'm going to share a few photos from my trip to Minnesota (this was before Paisley Park officially opened). My highlights were: Going to Electric Fetus, meeting Susannah (again), meeting new people, going to Lake Minnetonka (would've purified myself, but I can't swim), Seeing The Revolution at First Avenue (y'all don't even know all the geeking I did). The pilgrimage meant a lot to me and having my friend Karl with me was probably the best person to go with (Thanks for going with me dude!)

There's one thing to read about or watch videos of how an artist develops, but it's another thing to actually witness an artist come into their own. I remember the first time I ever saw Bilal perform--way back in the early 00's at the Black Lily showcase in Philly. I remember being entranced and startled, but not in a scary way but in an OH OH...Oooh, I'm excited kind of way.
Even way back then Bilal had his own distinctive way about him --now lets fast forward to the present, he's not a seasoned pro, focused, driven and still sounds divine. Plus, he's the only male singer I want to EVER cover a Prince song......EVER!
I caught some of Bilal's show when he came to Washington DC at The Howard Theatre, here are a few shots from the show and I'm sure if you do a search you'll find video of him performing Prince's "The Beautiful Ones."
So what most people don't know about me (okay, maybe a few of you), I am a BIG Jeff Goldblum fan. I've been an admirer of him since Earth Girls Are Easy and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai. I also put him in the fine wine category ...He gets better with time. During my time in LA, I had the opportunity to catch him at his Wednesday night residency at the Rockwell Table & Stage in LA. Check out my favorite photos from the show.
Martial x No Kings Collective put on 'HOME', a 3 day event filled with music, food and art in DC at Dock 5. I decided to catch the last day which featured, The Roots with Special Guest Jidenna. So, this is what happens when I decide to go out to enjoy an event --and not working/shooting ...But, I also had my camera with me just in case the snapping bug bit me.
